I really love how inspiring your posts are. I've been reading for over six months, but rarely comment, I'll think I'll have to change that! I'm also neither a mother or a wife, but this advice is helpful for anyone going through a rough time. I'll soon be living abroad for six months without any family or friends. It's good to know how others make it through difficult times to see that we are not alone. I hope you love Colorado Springs, Springfield will miss you!

I wanted to let you know that I've been enjoying your blog for awhile but this is my first time commenting. I was so touched by this post. I echo the sentiment of the other commenters that are not moms (I don't have children) but found value in this post. I even took some notes! :) thank you for your candor.

Thank you so much for posting this! I've really been struggling lately with being a single but married parent. My husband drives a truck and can be gone for a week or a month depending on his load schedule and I'm home taking care of a 5 month old daughter and a 10 month old big puppy. Sometimes I feel like I'm losing my mind bc all I can get done in a day is letting the dog out and nursing my little one, let alone take care of myself, cook, or clean. My family lives 1.5hours away which isn't bad but I can't take the dog with me so every once in a while, when the hubby is home on the weekend, I'll sneak off to see family and they can see their granddaughter, but then I miss out on time with hubby. I'm still trying to figure out how to be a wife/mother/friend and your post has given me some great ideas of how to cope!

Chloe

I don't know how you do it, but you are amazingly strong and brave! You are a great mother and wife, and I look up to you!

I really liked what you wrote about recognizing that its hard... sometimes just admitting the feelings helps a lot. In my case is the other way around, I have my husband at home, but we are in a new city- new state- new country, so we don't have family nor friends here, and that is also something that is very important in life, especially when you have kids (I have a daughter)...but well, I hope to start meeting people and making friends to fulfill that emptiness. Thanks for having this space where I just expressed myself! I needed it! ;)

Oh Rachel, I am so glad I found your blog and this post epitomises why! I also love sewing, though I'm still learning. But I'm also a mother and that's the most important thing in my life. So often I read blogs by sewers, crafters, thrifters and makers that are inspiring but they have so much more time and money to spend than I. Your blog shows how motherhood can live with those passions too, and that those of us who are time- and cash-poor can also live our dreams. Your tips are so helpful (my husband works shifts and I often feel like a part-time single parent) and I am always so inspired by your ideas. Thank you!

Ruby is such a cutie! And THANK YOU for posting this! My husband will be home from deployment in a couple months, and it's great to hear advice from someone who knows how it is.

Thank you SO SO SO much for this post. I'm a month into a deployment with a two and three year old - in Germany. Your advice by far has been more helpful than any other I've recieved. I have one thing to add - I get stir crazy really easily and so do my kids so I made a point to find friends. Like on a mission. Play groups, dinners, the grocery store. And also. It's ok to have to eat PB&J for dinner or throw on a movie to settle the kids.

5 Months to go - wish me luck!
