My parents took us to the drive-in near Roseville, CA a few times when we were kids. We'd bring our sleeping bags and blankets and a stash of candy and they'd let us lay on the top of the wagon to watch whatever was playing. I later made it to the local drive-in in Fresno in the late 90's a few times before they turned it into a parking lot while I was away at college.
So when I googled drive-ins and realized there was one 40 minutes away in Pueblo, CO I was thrilled. Brett and I told the kids we were going to watch a movie outside and then they fell asleep on the way there. We were THIS CLOSE to switching to another screen but realized we'd ruin drive-ins for them forever if they woke up and we couldn't switch over so Ice Age and Madagascar it was. Don't let his cool demeanor fool you - Brett was the most excited about it.
We brought our lawn chairs and plenty of blankets to make the back seat comfortable but ended up having to lay Ruby down because she was out cold. Missed the whole first movie!
Sebastian had the time of his life. We got popcorn and then decided to stay for the second movie despite it being WAY past everyone's bedtime. Ruby woke up in the back seat completely disillusioned but happy once she realized where we were and that there was popcorn involved.
The only bad part was leaving the parking lot at 12:30 and then not getting to sleep until 2 a.m. Yes, the kids were up at 7:00 the next morning. If I liked feeling like a zombie I'd do it again soon. I'm thinking next time we'll just get the kids in the car in their pajamas, tell them we're going somewhere boring, make sure they're fast asleep, and then pick the movie we'd like to watch. Hehe.
Please tell me you know the joys of a drive-in theater!
