We're celebrating Sebastian's 7th birthday over here a few days early so Brett can be with us to help contain the crazy. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to throw a party at our house by myself but I'm talking about him containing my crazy, not the handful of kids that will be attending. Throwing parties makes me anxious for some reason! I want to be so much more calm about it and enjoy the process as much as the actual party but I'm not there yet.
This year's request was Lego NinjaGo. I've given up most of my creative control on party decor now that they're old enough to want something so specific and have come to terms with the fact that I'm only going to be able to finish about 3/4 of the things I'd love to before the guests get here. I'm trying to keep my focus on creating something that makes Sebastian feel celebrated and I will keep telling myself that it'll all be worth it in the end. My friend, Amy, is always saying that making memories is her job and I love that. It's a beautiful way of viewing our roles as moms (or friends or partners or anything really).
I can feel the weight of summer each day now as we prepare for Brett to be away for a few months and have been trying to keep my emotions at bay by staying busy with projects and party preparation. I cleaned out the other side of our two-sided basement on Sunday and then gave it three coats of white paint in order to make it a little more suitable for a possible studio. It's also about twenty degrees cooler down there so I'm hoping to make it comfortable enough for the kids to hang out down there with me.
The dining room above got a little makeover recently in order to scratch the rearranging itch and allow for a little more room. I think our home will always be evolving to suit our needs during that season and I think this new set up, about which I'll blog more soon, is just the thing.
Thanks for all of your lovely comments and encouragement about our Apartment Therapy home tour this week! It was such a fun experience, ER visits and all!
I may not be back until Monday because we've got a busy weekend planned. I hope you enjoy yours, too!
