Some Things Michaela Made

Hi there! I’m Michaela, of Some Things Michaela Made. I have one more year at The Cleveland Institute of Art, where I study Animation and Fiber & Material Studies. My work spans several mediums, from collage to silkscreen to stop motion animation to embroidery,  and then some, so my shop, Golden Cat Studios, has a little bit of everything.

Most of my items feature free motion machine embroidery, in which I move an embroidery hoop around my sewing machine needle and draw.

 

This month, I am giving away my Dusty Rose Dreamcatcher with Embroidered Feathers, valued at $35. The hoop has a light coat of gold paint, accented by delicate beads and trims used throughout. The feathers are made by embroidering contour lines over layers of canvas and lace.  It is 8" in diameter and approximately 26" long.

Day Thirteen

This week has been full of great surprises! Our friends and neighbors have been taking such good care of us since we've been back home. We've been exploring some of the prettiest homes on our side of town (and beyond) with some charming ladies, had a watermelon picnic on some friends' lawn, been treated to ice cream delivery, surprised with dinner and dessert, and had Sebastian taken to a movie!

The dog is almost officially house broken. This makes me happy to no end.

I've been catching up on projects, getting the kids to bed early, and tackling some projects I'd normally put off or avoid altogether with hopes that Brett would take care of it. Stinky car seats only get stinkier! Just don't look at my kitchen sink. It's next on the list.

I think Ruby's been influenced by this Instax-a-Day project. What do you think?

I've been waiting for this day for a long, long time. Ruby kept something on her head long enough to let me take her picture.

Day Ten

I treated myself to this beautiful quilt after finding it on sale in an antique store in downtown Edmond, OK last week. It was an unexpected stop but I'm so glad I went in to look! It takes a lot for a quilt to make it home with me but the colors and patterns in this one are so unique and match our bedroom linens (as seen here).

Day Nine

Pillow Fight!

The best cure at our house for boredom, creeping anxiety, or to get some wiggles out is bed time. Obviously I always enjoy when bed time means NAP time but on this occasion it meant playing on our bed. We all ended up in my room this morning after a a few hours of all of the above and a pillow fight broke out.

Sebastian is three and a half years older than Ruby, not to mention a boy, which translates into loud and rough during anything physical but he is pretty great about knowing the limits. He kept standing in front of the camera so I asked him to move over for a minute and he told me he was standing in front of the edge so he could catch Ruby if she started to fall.

That didn't stop him from giving her a good whack with his pillow every now and then.

This was my sign that everything was okay.

I did have to referee things and call for a break every now and then.

It still ended in a time out on the bench.

I couldn't resist getting a shot of those folded arms. It must be genetic.

It's so hard to believe that this bed has shrunk so much in three years!

When it was all over we were no longer bored, anxious, or wiggly. Pillow fights. I highly recommend them.

Day Eight

Sebastian and my mom made two batches of chocolate chip cookies and one batch of sugar cookies with red frosting (his favorite color). My mom loves to bake cookies and we love to eat them so everyone was happy! She sent half of a batch to Brett in a compressed Zip-Lock bag and the other half home with us today.

I think I shared three of them with the kids.

Day Seven

Brett wasn't able to celebrate our ninth anniversary with me this year but I did get to see a baby elephant. My mom and the kids and I went to the OKC zoo on Wednesday morning and had fun watching a baby chimp swing from the ropes while holding onto an old t-shirt. Those little wild animals almost made us forget we were melting from the heat.

It's officially been one week since Brett caught a plane to Washington. We've been getting post cards from him every day! That man loves his family.
