We celebrated Memorial Day with a backyard full of friendly people across the street at our neighbors' house. The food was good, the kids were busy, and the weather almost perfect.
It was a great reason to get a little festive so I pulled out a dress I wear all the time but haven't shared in this feature before. I can't remember where I found it but I know I only paid $1.00 for it. I wish I had one for every day of the week because it's so comfortable and easy!
My favorite vintage scarf saved the day when I didn't have time to shower before the cookout. I've started picking up exceptional scarves whenever I'm out thrifting because they come in so handy and are easy to wear with most things in my wardrobe.
I'm wearing: Vintage dress, thrifted. Vintage scarf, gifted. Cardigan, F21. Flats, Target. Necklace, Bueno Bueno. Necklace, Beau & Stella via Collected Thread.
I found Ruby's dress in the doll clothes section of Urban (Charley's), a local flea market. It looked big enough but wasn't sure about the neck hole. We made it work!
You can't see it in these photos but there is some much enjoyed cupcake frosting on her shoulder (and mine). We party hard. The top has smocking on each side and a Peter Pan collar. So sweet.
Ruby's wearing: Vintage dress, thrifted. Jeggings, Target. Mary Janes, gifted.
Most of the vintage dresses I find for Ruby do not include matching bloomers for obvious reasons. I like to keep her diaper covered even if her dress is long enough to cover it so one of the ways I've managed that is by looking for bloomers at thrift stores. They are usually in decent shape, neutral enough, and never cost more than $ .50.
Another alternative to covering diapers when it's warm outside is to cut those jersey leggings into capris. I know Ruby won't be wearing the same sizes this fall/winter so I don't ever feel bad about repurposing them.
When the bloomers are dirty and you can't find another pair of leggings to cut up, there are always jeggings. Just kidding, I love them...on Ruby. When I saw them pop up in target a few weeks ago I grabbed two pair for the season. They are another easy way to mix vintage with trendy stuff to create a more modern look for your little one.
Here are a few fun breezy dresses to keep you cool this summer: bohemian, strappy, mexican, ethnic, chambray, tiered, and floral.
Rubyellen has been getting creative with her wardrobe with number four on the way. Last week she wore the cutest vintage California t-shirt on her trip to Disneyland with her girls. Stay tuned to see how they wore their vintage this week!
In other news, thank you so so much for all of the affirmation and excitement you shared over the new blog. I'm really happy with what I came up with and for tackling such a big project myself (with the help and guidance of some talented people) but that's all for another post.
I'll have a May sponsor giveaway winner for you tomorrow evening. We taking the kids to Silver Dollar City for the first time ever! Wish us luck...
