Welcome fall with something pretty in your hair! This leather leaves hair piece can be customized in your favorite fall colors and will add a nice layer of interest to your wardrobe.
To make your own you'll need: leather scraps in three different colors, ice pick or awl, large hair clip, waxed linen thread (or embroidery thread), embroidery needle, scissors, pen, scrap paper.
Trace a simple leaf pattern that measures about 4" long onto your scrap paper. Cut it out and use it as a template to cut out your leather leaves. Then poke seven holes down the center of each leaf to create your stem line. Place your hair clip on the back of the bottom leaf and mark where you're going to punch holes. Pre-punch your holes and then stitch the clip to the bottom leaf.
Next, stitch down the stem line of your bottom leaf. Place the middle leaf onto the bottom leaf at a slight angle with the stems staying close. Use the stem line holes of the middle leaf and punch through onto the bottom. Stitch the stem line of the middle leaf so that it goes through the bottom leaf. This will secure them. Tie a knot and trim ends.
Finally, place the top leaf onto the middle leaf and repeat. You'll stitch down the stem line through the middle and partially onto the bottom. It'll be messy on the back side but you don't want a lot of unnecessary holes or thread showing on the front.
Make a few as long as you have scraps. You'll probably wear your hair down more often!
