We went to the zoo on Labor Day because the weather here in Missouri was gorgeous! We'd been saving our discount ticket for a day when walking around in the sun for three hours wouldn't cause us to melt and suddenly that day was here! More on the actual trip in the next post.
I changed a few times because I didn't really know how to dress for this cooler weather. I usually get overambitious at the first hint of crisp, morning air and dress for the middle of winter. I decided to be sensible and skip the tights but take a cardigan. Oh, and wear the hair down. Which brings me to my next segment...
About two hours into our zoo day the sun started beating down and coaxed us out of our layers. I started to heat up pushing the stroller up and down the walkways and my legs started sticking to my boots. You know the feeling.
Thankfully, turbans can be quite versatile. I'm sure the photos are self-explanatory.
Getting long hair off of your neck can mean the difference between a happy mama that lets you watch the river otters just a little bit longer and a cranky ride home. And those river otters are so cute!
What I Wore: Turban, Anthropologie (gifted by Elsie). Sunglasses, F21. Necklace, With Care. Vintage dress, thrifted. Belt, Target. Bag, Urban Outfitters. Boots, thrifted.
What would you wear to the zoo if you, too, had near perfect weather?
xo,
Rachel
i love the dress - it looks great on you!x

I love your blog and have gotten so many terrific ideas and lots of inspiration from you. I'm wondering--ow do you get your turbans to stay in your hair? Whenever I try putting mine up with a headband or scarf, it slides out and I'm left with a mess.

Cute!! I have that exact problem and never thought of just twisting it into my turban. Genius! :)

Wasn't it Gorgeous!!!?!!!
How lucky are you... each time we have gone to the Zoo the otters are always inside :(
We walked 2 miles at the nature center!

Wish I had thought of something like this when I had my long hair, but I recently chopped most of it off to keep things simple for this simple-kinda-gal.
I'm a layers kinda gal, so I probably would've gone with my usual pants, tank & cardi...maybe toted a scarf for the chilly morning. Wish I had thought about the scarf this morning!

So cute! I ALWAYS forget my hair tie and I definitely agree that being able to pull your hair off your neck can turn a pleasant mama into a cranky mama :) We spent labor day at the zoo with our friends and their kiddos, too. It was PERFECT weather here, too :)

YOU LOOK AWESOME! we have super similar hair texture- digging how put together yours looks in these pictures. mine usually starts the day that ways and looks like a cat-lady cray cray by the end of the day (not exactly the cutest when you're a senior at the world's preppiest liberal arts college in south carolina and you already have a penchant for wearing shirts with unicorns) well done pretty lady. i am impressed.

Love the print on your dress! Here in Kansas, we got all-of-a-sudden perfect weather, too. It's been amazing!!! My lightweight 3/4-sleeve cardis are sure coming in handy and I'm practically living in my Minnetonka moccasins. You've reminded me that I promised my husband we'd go see the penguins at our zoo and we haven't done it yet. Hopefully this weekend will be nice!
