Last Saturday we were so happy to share in Sarah and Doren's beautiful outdoor wedding! Our family caravaned with Katie and her two girls to Lake Taneycomo and pulled in just before it started. When Sebastian spotted Elsie, Emma, and Jeremy lined up outside the bridal cabin he said, "All our best friends are here!" It sure does make for a good wedding.
The older kids occupied themselves with sword fights and the toddlers kept the grown ups busy running to and fro. Poesy decided she'd had enough of sitting in one spot and started army crawling after awhile. There was pie and cider and caramel apples. We had a great time.
Note: You will melt into a puddle of sugar after looking at the photo below. You've been warned.
Congratulations, Sarah and Doren! We love you and were so thankful to get to help celebrate such a special day!
Sunday evening we had an impromptu bonfire in the semi-detached fire pit. We moved some of the cinder blocks for a photo shoot this summer and have been too lazy to move them back, apparently. We had graham crackers on hand because, duh, we have kids, the marshmallows were from a month ago, and we busted out some fancy chocolate that the Larsons had brought over that afternoon. How did I not know about salted caramel chocolate bars before this day? How?!
Some of the neighborhood kids came over and we shared our treats. Thank goodness we still had those two dress shirts with the wire hangers from the dry cleaners in the back of the closet. Otherwise, we would've been up a creek. Two wire hangers made it feel old school. The fancy chocolate made it feel grown up. It was a good mix.
Ruby stayed clear of the pit until I brought the tray of chocolate out. Then she started creepin'. She taste tested as much as she could before I realized what she was doing and gave her her own S'More to keep her hands busy. She loved it.
Our neighbors had to go home and eventually it got so dark that we couldn't see Ruby running around the yard. I left Brett outside to listen to the Cardinal's game and got the kids ready for bed. The sugar made for a rough bedtime routine but I think it was worth the memory.
Then it was back outside for some alone time. I'd like to tell you the rest of the story but...I probably shouldn't. Ha! Good thing it was dark out there.
I like weekends. We should have another one soon.
xo,
Rachel
