We had a little family party in our front yard Sunday afternoon after Ruby's birthday party. We used the cardboard box leftover from the dollhouse/grass sled fun (more on that soon) as our mess catcher and got out the acrylic craft paints and little pumpkins we'd been using as decorations and let the kids go for it.
It was fun observing the differences in the ways Sebastian and Ruby went about their pumpkin painting. Sebastian chose the biggest pumpkin and methodically painted it in his favorite color. When Brett claimed to have the scariest pumpkin Sebastian said his own was the grossest, so there!
Ruby, on the other hand, left her mark on every other pumpkin unclaimed and did not discriminate with her color choices. No color was a stranger. All were welcome!
Once she'd run out of pumpkins she moved on to appendages.
It was a lovely afternoon and sure to be a great memory as we count down the days before we lose Brett to the East Coast for three months. Our painted pumpkins will join us inside again soon as we continue to celebrate the harvest season and look forward to Thanksgiving.
Also, painting outside is way more fun than painting inside.
xo,
Rachel
She may paint toenails better than I do. So so sweet.

So cute! I let my children paint pumpkins by themselves for the first time this year...washable paint, and all four of them are just barely old enough to be responsible with the art supplies. (3 years through 8 years old) :-) I love watching how children express themselves creatively.

Your kids bring back so many memories for me. Ben was my slow methodical painter who stayed in the lines, while Elizabeth did not believe in lines. If it was a surface and didn't have paint on it, she painted it.

Looks like a hit with everyone in the family. Ruby's moccasins are so cute.

So much fun! You are so brave to do painting with your baby! You've inspired me to introduce my little guy to paint soon. I know he'll love it (I just hope not in the culinary sense!)
